Goodbye Bessie...Welcome Cammie!

She treated us well.  I mean, really, she brought us home from MT looking like this one time:

But after 10.5  years it was time to move on.  We'll miss you "little car"!

Here is the new one - a Toyota Camry Hybrid.  She will make her maiden voyage to MT this weekend with many more to come over the years! We can only hope she will be as reliable as the Buick over the years.

We keep telling Kaylynn this could be her car when she learns to drive.  She will be getting her permit in only 7 years...!

End of school activities

We are busy rounding out second grade with all sorts of celebrations.  Kaylynn was a "cool reader" reading over 5000 minutes during the school year.  As a reward, the kids got to spend 2 hours at Bounce Town, eat pizza and have cake!  They had a great time.

Kaylynn's class also had a celebration today and all the kids read poems.  Kaylynn and Jack read one called "Weather".  It was cute.  We will miss her class and her wonderful teacher, Mrs Weglarz.  Kaylynn had a great year!

GOOOAAAAALLLL!

Kaylynn's soccer team scored four goals total this season and she got one today - the last game of the season.  The crowd went wild!!!  I was even lucky enough to get it on video - enjoy!

Second Grade Singers!

Kaylynn's class had their end-of-year music performance this week.  They did so great.  They really move in music and they were all hot and rosy-cheeked when they finished!  Kaylynn and her friend Paige even sang a duet (if I can figure out how to shorten the length of the video I will post it!).  They did a great job and they were the only two kids to sing outside of the group.  I was so proud!

At the end of the performance they did some yoga poses!

Spring Soccer

I always need to post some soccer pictures each season.  Kaylynn is really improving and the girls are showing some concept of "pass-shoot-score" (even if it doesn't happen too often)!  It has been fun to watch their skills grow!

There post-season party (even though they have one make-up game left) was this week and the girls had a great time eating pizza, goofing around and getting medals for their hard work this season!

Coppelia

Kaylynn was in the Spring Gala ballet put on by her dance theater called "Coppelia".  The performance was fantastic.  We have a lot of talented dancers in our town!  Kaylynn was part of the La Priere Corps (Prayer girls).

The twins!

Our Artist

Kaylynn was one of 7 or so second graders from her school chosen to have art work displayed in the St. Vrain District Art Show.  It is all displayed at the mall so we went to see it.  Here is our artist with her masterpiece!

After K's soccer game today we went to the Farmer's Market and she got her face painted.
It is hot today, and after a lot of time in the sun, K fell asleep at the kitchen table!

One last random, but recent, photo: The kids had to make "scrappy hats" for school (hats made out of what ever is laying around the house).  Kaylynn made hers before we had put away all our Easter decorations!

Cow Eyeball!

I volunteered to help in Kaylynn's classroom today to dissect a cow eyeball.  I was in for more than I realized - I had to do all the cutting!  A local eye doctor talked us parents through what we would be doing to start off.
Then the kids came out and she quizzed them on all the parts of the eye.  When they realized she was giving candy for correct responses all the hands went up!

Here is the eyeball I am about to cut into!
Kaylynn told me last night that this was going to be disgusting and she did not want to touch it.
 That didn't last long!
All three girls in my group dug right in (literally)!  They were absolutely fascinated and asked me to keep cutting more and more so they could look deeper into the different parts of the eye.  We cut off the cornea first and then cut through the vitreous body (gooey gel that would squirt you if you were not careful!) and took the lens out.  After they bounced the lens like a bouncy ball and magnified words with it we cut that apart and saw all the different "eye rings" which are just like tree rings and can tell how old the animal was.  We also saw the optic nerve, the iris, the pupil and even the reflector - which humans don't have but grazing animals do.  It was all very cool and I was glad I got to help!
