We went up to State Forest State Park this weekend near Gould, CO. It is known to have good moose viewing so I was all for it! Kaylynn was car sick on the way up because Daddy took us on a "shortcut" on some very curvy roads! Because of this we had several stops on the way up, including Poudre Falls.
We finally made it up to the Moose Visitor Center and Kaylynn got to stand next to the first moose we saw!
We went to set up camp after being told that it has been raining there every afternoon. Then we decided to go hike to Lake Agnes. Here was Kaylynn just before we started the hike...
and about 5 minutes later...!
We waited out the rain and tried again, but had to turn around a second time and then decided to call it quits. On our way back to our camp site we saw our first moose right along the road. We watched her for quite awhile. It was really neat to watch her bend down on her knees and drink.
This morning Cory and Kaylynn headed out to go fishing, but after falling down in the mud and getting cold hands and feet all she wanted to do was GO HOME!! I didn't even get a chance to take a picture of them fishing, but did take a few of the fog lifting off the lake early this morning. This was a view from our campsite.
Instead of fighting Kaylynn on sticking around, we decided just to pack up and head home. We did stop at the visitors center (aka "the moose store" according to Kaylynn) one last time on the way past and we were treated to another up-close moose encounter. We were the only ones there, except for a couple of park rangers who were grunting her in. It was very cool to see her so close. The one ranger said she thought she was last years calf who hung around this same area last year with her mother so she was very used to the people.
We stopped to take some pictures of the Crags on our way home and at one last pull-off saw another cow and calf down in a river valley. So if you ask me about how the trip went I would say "GREAT"!! No bull (moose), but no bull!
