We finally made it to the Grand Canyon! We were all very impressed by the expanse of it all. Here we are at Dessert View.
The next morning we went to the Visitor Center and started at Mather Point. A guy from Longmont took this picture. We started talking to him because his son had a Sioux Hockey sweatshirt on!
Here we are at the start of our hike on the Bright Angel trail. Next time we plan to hike this trail rim-to-rim (we will have to plan for a three day overnight trip!).
As we turned to head up we saw these guys going by.
So we followed them all the way back up to the top. The rested often so it worked well for us!
I am pretty sure I already showed these picture from a slight different angle...
You can see people sitting at the point we stopped at in this picture.
We also went to Yavapai Point for a ranger talk.
As we learned during the talk, here we are looking at about 7% of the total expanse of the Grand Canyon from this point - and it seems like we can see forever!
Hard to believe some of these rocks are 1.8 Billion years old.
We went out to Yaki Point for sunset one night.
Kaylynn fulfilled all her duties to acquire her Junior Ranger badge!
Then we decided to head out on a biking tour of along the rim road. Our guide was very interesting and knowledgeable. We biked out Hermit Road to the end.
This picture shows some of the rapids (probably about 300 yds long) in the canyon. From our vantage point we could cover them up with our thumb!
We made it to Hermits Rest and, well, rested!
The last day we went on a hike down about a mile to Ooh Aah Point. Kaylynn really liked that point! We said ooh and aah lots!
If you look closely you can see the trail snaking its way down the canyon face. This was a steep trail! We learned quickly to take more pictures on our hike back up rather than down since we wanted to stop more going up anyway!
Here is a close up of the trail.
We hiked along the rim trail for awhile back to our car. It was beautiful. But always windy (as you can tell in many of the pictures from this trip!).
Somewhere along the way we also stopped at Grandview Point. All the pictures are starting to look the same...! But I just can't decide which to post and which to leave out!
Until next time...
On our way home we stopped by Four Corners. That is a once-in-a-lifetime stop - really, you just need to do it once to check it off "the list".
Here is Kaylynn in four states at once!
The courtyard surrounding the marker was nice.
We had a lot of fun on our trip! Hope you enjoyed all the pictures! Sorry for the quantity!
